Ali Grant
Writer/Director/Producer
Ali Grant is a lesbian filmmaker, living and working in Vancouver, BC, on the unceded and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. At age 53 she went back to school to learn documentary filmmaking. She is passionate about telling stories about the extraordinary lives of ordinary women. Her films have shown in festivals nationally and internationally, including at DOXA, Toronto’s Inside Out LGBT Film Festival, mujerDOC, Porto Femme, the Uppsala Short Film Festival, the Vancouver International Film Festival, and the Women Over Fifty Film Festival. She has received funding from the BC Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts, Chicken and Egg Films, Creative BC, Rogers, and TELUS originals. Ali has a Ph.D. in geography from McMaster University (1997), and a Certificate in Documentary Film Production from Langara College (2019). She is a member of the International Documentary Association, the Documentary Organization of Canada, and the Gender Equity in Media Society of Vancouver.
